F.A.Q.: Frequently Asked Questions
What does SDME stand for?
SDME stands for The Society for the Discussion of Medical Ethics.
What is the purpose for the Society for the Discussion of Medical Ethics?
Please visit our Mission Statement page.
Why medical ethics?
Medical ethics is an important topic because many people, especially in the general public, are unaware that these things are being discussed. SDME was created to get the discussion going.
Why did you pick Mind, Body, and Life as your topics?
The headings of Mind, Body, and Life allow SDME to cover a wide range of topics. It limits us to topics within medical professions, but having three very different areas promotes interest in various ethical issues.
Who decides what topics to present each year?
Our Board of Directors chooses topics each year. Volunteers with expertise in each field or just in research are chosen to write the content for each section. The Board of Directors also organizes our annual conference.
Why have an annual conference?
The annual conference started to bring the general audience and the experts together in a physical place, where you can hear the experts talk in person and engage in one-on-one debates. It’s important because, through donations made at the annual conference and ticket purchases, it allows SDME to continue providing thought-provoking information to educate the general audience and encourage discussion among our two target audiences.
Who can contribute to the discussion?
Anyone! The Society for the Discussion of Medical Ethics was created as a place for opinion leaders and medical experts to discuss the issues they understand with the general public.
Where do your funds come from?
All of our funding comes from private donations contributed online at our Donate page, through PayPal, or at our annual conference, where donors can meet directly with the Board of Directors.
How can I submit a question for your F.A.Q.?
